Mingw

Postby pedorlee » Thu Jan 14, 2016 6:21 pm

I don-t know if I should post this here or in the moot or if this doesn-t fit on haven forums. Just tell me and Ill erase it.

In most of programs I try to download to code in c I need to install mingw, but they link me to sourceforege. Since that place is full of malware I don-t want to use them. I-ve searched for other ones but they allways, after using virustotal, seem to have virus. Ive read they are false positives but answers doesnt convince me too much. Any suggestion, idea or explanation from our experienced coders?

PD> Soz for the extrange symbols but this game changes my keyboard lenguage at will.

Im quite sure there is many free programs to edit and compile C.

I'm pretty sure you can trust the link provided by the official mingw site. Even if it is hosted on the sourceforge.
(I don't have antivirus software or firewall or anyting else to protect my computer for more then 6 years and i've never got a virus during all this time. Brains are the best protection against this kind of stuff)

Are you looking to start coding from scratch in C or modify something that exists?

If you are learning/starting from scratch I would use Visual Studio. You can just write C code in a C++ VS project.

What languages do you have available in your VS2015 community?

Or Linux + Vi / any text editor + makefile -> oldschool version

And if you use a windows on a good enough computer, making a linux virtual machine is a good and flexible option or just a double boot
