Poison food and poop

Postby SaintGilbert » Sat Jul 23, 2011 10:26 am

Taking a page out of someone's mod for Minecraft, I have a suggestion for poop usage.

It could be boiled down to make poision (which could be bucketed or bottled). Splash it on some food, and give it to someone, and they lose SHP, HHP, or their lives. Higher quality poop comes from higher quality cows, and makes higher quality (more lethal) poison.

The catch: either poison could be detected with certain skills or traits, or it would be invisible to everyone and YOU could risk accidentally eating poisoned meat.

Other poisons could include:

*Flowers
*Mushrooms
*roots
*Rats or Frogs
*Spoiled Meat (if placed on a herbalist's table)
* Spoiled milk (herbalist's table)
* Harmesan cheese (the only cheese that hurts people).

All would have to be boiled in a cauldron to derive poison, and once again, put into a bottle or bucket.

Whaddya think?

It's actually been suggested before. I think it's a cool idea, but I could see a lot of issues with it (sell poisoned food to noob village -> dead noob).

Not a fan of such basic poisons doing so much without some better healing being put in place.

Perhaps making an antidote from the same thing the poison is made out of? The only catch is, you don't know what it's made out of, so it's all guessing.

It would be interesting if it had more subtle and diverse effects. Perhaps things you don't even notice for a day or two -- effects that only appear after so much time has elapsed or after so many logins. Penalties to stat gains for a period of time, reduced lp gain for a time, start you with negative IP in your next combat situation, give your opponent Combat Advantage over you for a fight or two, mask the effect of the next poison consumed, negate the effects of water to restore stamina for awhile, convert all FEPs you consume into Hurt FEPs. Things of that nature.

You have to be able to keep them secret too. If you invite someone over, feed them a meal, and they get a status effect saying they're poisoned shit is going to go down. It's difficult to force feed someone anything either! This is why effects need to be delayed (Also poison is not instant. You're not giving someone concentrated doses of arsenic here) or not shown at all.

I'm also against there being any sort of easy remedy or detection. Antidotes may not need to be terribly specific or require hours of dedication but it should be a quality war. If you think you're poisoned, by the symptoms you've been seeing, then your antidote needs to exceed the quality of the toxin you ingested.

Weaker area poisons would also be great. Poisoning a quality water node over night to dissuade and punish thieves, for example.

It would be Really nice if some effects didn't kick in for a week or two even. This will catch the person entirely off guard and cover up who poisoned them in the first place. Perhaps some method to be able to determine the incubation period before it begins its effects with slower poisons being much more powerful than ones that are fast acting. Maybe different reagents more easily raise the quality of the toxin but give it a longer delay before starting its effect while others severely impede on the poisons quality but are nigh instant.

I'm not a biologist to talking about this but if you are talking about incubation, you are talking about disease. Poisons are generally more short term effect than disease are (though it doesn't make them less deadlier). Disease can be dormant inside a human body for some times before symptoms and effects start to take effect. In game term wise though, disease shouldn't fully cripple a character unless it is left untreated for some times and that is when it takes a long time to recover from. Perhaps a hit in attribute is suitable. Poison sounds like it should gradually hit HHP though and the damage should semi-scale.

An enemy will only fight if he believes he either has a chance to win, or you've backed him into a corner and he's fighting for his life. A completely crushing victory provides an enemy with neither.
