I find it funny that the Japanese are so bad at reading emotions that they have to write it in a little box beside the peoples' faces.

its just that you havent seen it (or wouldnt understand it) in its original form.
we have loads of onomatopoeia (e.g. "zzzz" for sleeping or "splash" for the water sound) that we have hard time translating them into english, and we usually end up with putting those "too-explanatory" words next to the pics. those onomatopoeia are considered just parts of pics.

I know. I've read a few mangas, and I have nothing against Japanese culture, I just think it's a bit funny.

and i think its funny that japanese kids think english speakers are bad at expressing emotions for not having those words :)
no worries, im not trying to offend you or anything, im talking about how you find the uniqueness of different cultures.
