I don't know what game you're playing, but the one I played a year and a half ago was 4x larger than the current one and rangers tracked random scents just out of sheer boredom.

You want to know why people don't follow through with vengeance? Accessibility. You don't have any way to access an enemies village without tons of preparation. You have to wall off a ram to protect it and hope they don't wheel in a counter ram to put a hole in their own wall to break your ram. Anything short of brick will likely just get bashed by the village palibasher(s). You often times have one small section of wall to assault because the village surrounded their walls with banners and/or statues preventing a ram from getting close and being walled off.

The game is broke. Bad ideas won't make it better. The good ideas have already been considered and will be implemented when time allows.
