Ok my idea is adding bear traps, they can be made from any metal besides tin and copper and will be used to trap any animal. They should be visible so players wont run into them unless they are really stupid. The reason bear traps wont over powered is because there is a low chance for animals to walk into them since its just one tile out of a billion. they can be there just for an easy catch every once in a while. So they cant be used to siege other players i suggest making them deactivatable (<-- not a real word). So whats the point of having bear traps if people can just deactivate and steal them? well thats simple, not everyone is a butt hole.

Additional features
They cant kill players but deal damage and cripples them making them crawl for a while
Making a bear trap requires metal working, hunting and, animal husbandry
The better the metal and the higher your smithing/strength the more damage towards people and animals
This may make it easier to kill trolls but if you don't want that just make trolls immune :D
Make them visible enough for players to see if they are paying attention

This seems really pointless. I don't have any criticism for this except it really serves no purpose except aiding hunting bears which is easy enough as is.

Ehh...
What are the chances a bear will walk into a trap randomly placed in the world ??

9 times out of 10 you will catch a fox, and then a puppy will come along and save it, and then they will fight a bear

like in fox in the hound.

Animals don't even spawn unless the map gets loaded in that area so you'd have to camp around with the bear trap waiting for the bear to walk into it. So it wouldn't really work properly unless some stuff about how animals spawn changed.

You're forgetting the fact that nothing actually spawns unless someone has been in the area and loaded it up.
So to implement this, it would need to be changed. I very much doubt this would be implemented but I do believe the loading objects system will be tweeted, As one of the problems is that it is currently impossible to tan troll hides due to it resetting every time the map has to reload. :roll:

It would totally be possible to tan troll hides if the server didn't crash on a regular basis =(

put 6 layers of bear traps between your walls. replace as needed. You are now invincible.
