I WANT ANIMAL TRACKING NOW !

Postby Roxana » Fri Oct 25, 2013 4:15 am

Just like a ranger can track a criminal using scents, it would be nice if a hunter can use "animal scents" to track animals. Many times i got tired of roaming the forests aimlessly searching for deer or bears with no luck.

Have you ever seen a real life hunting ?...you don't walk clueless through the trees until you encounter some boar or fox...you search for fresh prints, chewed leaves, etc. You hunt SCENTS first, then you hunt the prey !.

It wouldn't be hard to implement this mechanic, just re-use the criminal-scent system and adapt it for animals. The scents could be "fox paw print", "boar poop", "deer hair" and the like (there could be even troll scents too !!!). Of course, the better EXP x PERC your hearthling has, the better he/she will be at tracking animals, and the better STEALTH the animal has, the more difficult will be to track it. Or we can use the animal's AGI in the equation: foxes are smaller and more agile than bears, so it would be harder to track a fox than a bear.

I've seen players not buying the "Ranger" skill (not everyone wants to be an HnH cop !!!); with this "animal scent" mechanic this type of players will have an encourage to purchase the skill and have a better HnH experience.

This can also be an opportunity to introduce more item to craft, like a "bunny whistle" to attract them to you or binoculars to increase your chance of getting more animal scents.

...this is just an opinion, critics and ideas are welcome !...

So what? Randomly spawned forragables that point a pie slice towards the closest animal of a type when it was loaded?
Sounds pretty cool.

Just as you turn on "ranging" to see criminal scents, you could turn on "seek animal" to see animal scents. Eventually, you will come across a foragable animal scent that allows to track the beast and then..well..."go ninja on its fluffy ass" or show it some "hard arrow love"!!!

I like this. I would also like to have snares, pitfalls, etc. Since a wall is basically the only defense we have. I'd love to have something like that. For hunting and any snooping griefers ;)

Not bad idea. You could find deer poop, bear paw or boar hair and get aprox direction pie. :)
