It'd be best to use the stone. Anyone who has one set for that gate can get in then ;D Maybe make them a 2-3 time use?

Wouldn't be any fun if a computer was cleaning it up.

I don't like the idea of people fencing off their entire claims, fencing off carrot fields ect.

People get over protective about everything they own not just their rare valuables.

Just to stir some trouble, if we have walls, why not a rope. So i can climb over the wall... thus making wall useless, which they generally would be.

Assuming that walls would require valuable resources to construct, I do not believe people walling in their entire claim would be a problem.

I think the only way someone should be able to get through a wall should be by destroying it. Most likely with some sort of multi-person siege engine. If a single person wanted to get in, they would have to figure out a way to get the gate open.

I'd support ropes if they have some high skill requirement (stealth would fit somehow).

Siege weapons nobody will ever use, but will make for no apparent reason. Great

Give it time. There are, what, three or four major settlements right now? No major players are really mad at each other yet; unfriendly actions are mostly limited to individuals engaging in thievery and random griefing, but eventually someone will declare war on someone else, even if just for the hell of it. Hell, found an aggressive settlement yourself if you feel the need.
Personally, I think there need to be defenses that'll keep out individual attackers before things can really get interesting. If you can build a wall that'll keep you safe from a ranger, you can then go on a crime spree and get a whole bunch of people mad at you without getting killed in the process. Then a bunch of them will band together, make a battering ram, and kill you. But if you're in a village of your own, that'll get your friends mad at the people who killed you. (Right now all the big towns hate thieves, but that'll change once random thugs can't go after them anymore.) Things will escalate from there. But, ironically, strong defenses are pretty much a prerequisite for any serious aggression.

Here is what I think:

- A gate can be made by the village chieftain or owner of a claim
- Walls can be made by the same people
- For gates, the owner can add his kin to the list of people who can open the gate
- Done.

What I dislike is the thought of siege equipment, maybe a steel battering ram to smash down gates, but that's it. As for NPC guards I'm all for them, but here is what I'd like to see.

- All of their skills start at level 30 ( weapon etc ) and must be leveled up.
- Instead of perma death they re-spawn after 4 hours with all thier skills back 10 points in each category
- The players of the village or claim must equip the guards with their own weaponry and armor.
- Guards with bows will have some sort of auto targeting system; as this is currently not feasible just give them axes and swords and make them work like regular monsters. Except HOPEFULLY with pathfinding.
- Each new guard has to be bought for four steel bars, it could work with putting it in some sort of container and clicked a trigger button to make it generate a new guard npc.
- Done.

This is what I think. I don't care if they are or are not implemented, as I think the game could work both ways. However as for NPC involvement in a sandbox I would not like to see any more then the guards, thanks.
