Farming idea:Ox drawn harvester?

Harvesting big farms takes a long time, even with a scythe and seed bags you have to either constantly replant or run back to wherever you keep your seed put them away and resume farming. Granted, this isn't a huge problem but still it could be improved. An ox drawn reaping machine, yes they existed (well horse driven varieties at least)

To build it you would need

2 bars of any strong metal (wrought and cast iron, steel, bronze)

40 boards

25 block

5 rope (for pulleys, and attaching to cow)

3 bone glue

2 hardened leather

3 hide strap (reigns to control ox)

6 linen or silk cloth (bag in which to hold seeds/ vegetabes)

you would need basic mechanics and ox carting before being able to build it. It would function like a plow but be between 2 to three tiles wide, once it passes over a tile, like a plow it harvests the crops as if they had been harvested normally (maybe with a slight lp loss over conventional farming) meaning that the plant fibers/straw falls to the ground and the seeds are but into the harvesters inventory. The harvester could be used in conjunction with a silo or other stock pile viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6073&start=0&hilit=silo. This would allow for crops to be harvested faster and with less stamina drain. I'm probably off on the amount of materials that is reasonable, so if you think you have a better number or better material choices please post 'em.

I hope this makes sense, do you think it's a good idea?

Sounds awesome. It should, though, take metal and decay fast as hell(two harvests before it goes to a not-usable state), as well as require 2 bars to be fully repaired.

I dont get why they didn't implement this when oxcarting got released. Its obviously something every nerdy big village needs.

Yah that's what I was thinking, you could build windmills to power quern's and wells, maybe powered looms?

Why do you think it should decay so fast? Not trying to contradict, just curious. :)

To:
1)increase the sink of metal(damn, even with those supports metal is still bitch to get rid of);
2)To make a harvester less overpowered.

If the Ox Plow only works for two tiles of harvest, then nobody would bother using it and repetitively repair it.
I say the degrade shouldn't be affected by the number of tiles moved, but rather based on the Ox's own stamina and the plow's durability.
The maxed tiles it can plow and harvest through should be around 40 tiles or 40 harvests, before it needs to be repaired, but the Ox's stamina will drop before you reach that much, maybe 1 tile = 10% stamina (gets lower if the quality of the Ox is higher).

As long as it doesn't work on grape vines, I'm cool. GRAPES SHOULD BE PICKED BY HAND.

Iss okay, iss okay my precious grapies. No ones gonna reap you. Iss okay.

I think that grapes should be only pickable by hand, because otherwise, you're fucking up your wine. The amount of breakage would mess everything up. Also, you wouldn't be able to spot rot, et cetera, if you're just reaping and smashing. :(
