Well it might be better (better being a very vague term) if it merely made your character just stand on the water after to boat is destroyed. The only lame thing is no scent.

Though of course the simplest solution is don't go AFK outside (or anywhere).

So you'd rather someone just shoot u with a bow? =p. Not being able to bash a boat wouldnt really matter much honestly. It should maybe leave a scent like lean-tos do but meh. Pay attention while your fishing and you wont have any problems.
