Banks alts

Postby BruThoL » Fri Oct 07, 2011 9:24 am

Hey,

People use alts to stock items like keys, and things of value (gold, pearls, ...).
No man you won't steal me, my stuff is in a parallel plan.

What about making a bag, at the position of each character disconnecting, containing the inventory of this character? Name of the char would appear on mouseover if in kinlist.
Also, thief skill would be required to take stuff from these.

i can't help but think it would make it too easy to just steal new player's stuff, though it would, maybe solve the problem, of bank alts

This changes so many things that are currently a part of game mechanics. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, just going to take some work to program it. How do you deal with beds? How do you deal with something like a lean-to where you can even keep chests in it? (A lean-to can already be vandalized for the content, so guess not as much changes there.) What happens if someone gets dumped from a d/c? Should the bad just automatically be located at the character's hearth fire?

Personally, I think there's too little protection in the game other than going to the extreme of using hearth vaults. I'm going to say that it's not going to make me quit playing if it does get implemented in some way, but I probably won't like it and I certainly won't be playing the same way.

Who cares of new player's stuff (If it's not another "new player"') ?

Sure, newbies would got stolen twice as much, but in another hand, assuming they don't have much (they are newbies) they won't loose much.

The bag would just appear at the character last position before disconnecting.

The fact that your character and his stuff are safer when you are offline than when you're online sounds bad to me.
How to explain that? Parallel safe dimension?
I'd actually want to make it possible to kill people when it's sleeping (or more generally, offline) without scents needed.
Maybe that would be called "Assassination" and left some scents which would last for 2 weeks.

Yeah, that's why I'm not saying it's a bad idea. I'm just saying I don't like the potential implications of it. (There is a difference there, you know.)

That there is a whole other suggestion thread. Since it's here, I'll comment. If a mod wants to try and edit it into another thread, go for it.

Permanent. You want to kill someone that is offline, the scents become permanent. Of course, if murdering a person offline is possible, then the whole thing with how long the scents last is immaterial for the purpose of summoning. There could be a differentiation between killing someone offline for "no reason" and summon killing them (just murder scents). There's just tons of problems with the idea, though, that I'm not even going to start to get into in this thread. If you really want me to list them, then make another thread or dig up an existing one (if there is one out there).

Would be too easy to grief others. While the current system in place isn't perfect this doesn't exactly make it better.

Keys are already a downright retarded mechanic, why make it even worse?

Well it would be nice to steal from sleeping toons...just as you could in the real world... Not that I'm one of those people that want all kinds of real life stuff here...far from it...

But I think a toon in a bed should be subject to some form of theft....would make things interesting sometimes...lol

I do however agree that the implementation of such things would require major rework of several mechanics and I am happy enough as things sit now...

J&L have actually discussed doing something along these lines specifically to nullify the concept of 'alt vaults' where inventory/eq might be accessible through their hearth, totem or logout location.

Object system rewrite is first major project on the list after Salem if I understand correctly.

And siege mechanics. Yeah, I think I saw Jorb or Loftar one mention that. (It's in the Salem dev thread if anyone wants to bother finding the exact post.)
