unsupported mining with % chance of collapse all the time

Postby DeadlyPencil » Sat Feb 25, 2012 10:17 pm

Problem:
Mining rediculously long sections of straight highways should not be possible. zig zag mining should also not be possible. This currently allows people with macros to basically mine 24 hours until they reach what they want.

solution:
have a % chance of a collapse on ALL tiles not under supports, so this means even your first dig into a wall when you have no metal.

I think this would make mining more realistice, more dangerous, and make it harder to find rare metals. and hopefully make botting non-existant in mining.

I support this, but in stead of having the danger of a collapse the first time you mine, we should be able to make another support without the use of a nugget, but bricks and stone. The radius will be less but you will be able to start your mining safely.
Hope you have a great day

Yes, but what if you don't even want to take that risk?

sounds nice, too bad botting is not really looked down upon these days.

Even if you changed to were you had to have a mine support all the time they would just make building the support apart of the bot, 1 l chest holds enough bloks for 1 support so with 10 chests they could still mine until they get what they want.

I think bots will be less likly if they can make it less tidous. Its rather boring doing any task because you are waiting x time until you can mine/drink/do. Action again. This is great for a free game, but I wonder if they will change things like this in salem to make it more interctive and less of what some consider "time waster game"

Here's a hint: it was designed this way. No word from Jorb or loftar if they're happy with this or not.

Careful or not, there's still a very small chance of cave-ins with this. If a player isn't careful, no matter what pattern they use they'll end up with a cave-in. Yeah, I think the chance needs to go up a bit more, but not too much more. If you're trying do do this only to nerf bot mining, you're just hurting the regular players as they're the ones most likely to make mistakes. If you want to get rid of bots doing the mining, I suggest attempting to come up with another idea.

The "roads" are an unforeseen consequence of the mechanics behind exploration. It definitely needs to be fixed. Too bad we won't see a fix for it for the next year or so. Well, we won't really see anything getting fixed for that long.

No, you don't. as long as you have cave floor, you can pave a tile and build a support there. Granted, you're wasting a lot of support space by doing this. I can't remember what the clearance or paving requirements are at the bottom of a minehole (if there are any). I've always snaked in 4-5 tiles and then built a support.

No need to pave mined tiles. You can build on them at any location. The issue there would be building a support at the minehole floor. As I said, I just can't recall the requirements for paving there.
