Sab, I need to disagree with you. Gauze is not very attainable for small groups and especially hermit builds.
I do agree that leeches should remain as they are. But I think some in-between method for healing would make the game more interesting and fun.
Traditionally herbs would be used for this effect. Perhaps willow bark (aspirin), as I think has been suggested before, would work.
Cheers to your character's health!

i've been a longtime proponent of some foraged herb that give a small heal over time or beds restoring hhp. leeches are fine though, imo

gauze is supposed to be the dependable method of healing. we had gauze yesterday, not really that hard to get early on, especially in a group.

im not actually talking about the amount they heal, i can live with that, it is if they heal at all. i think they should always heal regardless the amount. i do not belive they would be overpowerd by making sure we laways get a heal from a leech. no more pointless sucking if you will. having leech after leach not deliver what they are suppose to, drives me insane.

This is pretty much what I think.

I've been bothered by this issue too. Easy-to-find Leeches heal too little to be of any use to a hermit. Wool is completely unattainable to a newbie starting out, and hard to get for anyone without an established village. And Con Food only helps a little, and does so slowly (I never even knew Con healed HHP until I read it here, and I've eaten a ton of it so far, I thought it only added to the "Max HP")

One thing I thought of to help is a Linen Bandage, which works similar to a wool one, only heals less overall.

A forage-able plant would be nice to have also, something which works like a Leech but occurs at higher qualities (then 10) more often.

"I SH*T I'm bleeding, I know lets thin my blood that'll help" I don't think Aspirin is what you want when your bleeding badly XD.

Maybe Cauterizing the wound could give you some HHP back maybe 15%, but it can only be done once until you refill your HHP bar.
