Wait, so a lonely farmer on Q 60 spot gotta build whole village for himself just to be safe from some random jackass?
My soil spot is QL 58. There is claim stake in center. Overall square of claim around it is 6900m2 covered with palisade. Next tile ouside of palisade/claim is Q47. So, i can get my soil digged out down to Q 21? Nice.
And to prevent that, i "just need to increase my claim / build a village claim, build even larger wall then 80x80"? Very nice.

Main concern for me is that such action from griefer will just kill my plants down from 58(+10?) to 21(+10?) in a matter of few hours. Getting plants from 21 to 58 takes "a bit" more time, then waiting for clay/water to go same amounts.

Oh, what a relief, only those with really high q soil are safe.

Higher quality means larger area. If you've not got high quality soil then you need a smaller wall which you should have no problem with.

You don't have to worry about crop quality falling as long as your farming skill is as high or higher than the seeds you're planting. Even with a lower skill, you could still maintain quality somewhat with a full nature slider until you got farming up to get your crops going up again. Remember, soil and skill only change the random range. They don't softcap the crops. Plus, the soil would return to its quality cap over several days.

As far as I know the game produces the formula for crops the instant that they're planted. So if you plant q50 wheat seeds in q60 soil, and then the next day someone comes along and digs your soil down to q35, the seeds that you harvest will still be 50+, so really it'd be awfully hard to actually lose your seed quality to this. You'd just have to take a soil sample before you plant to see where it's at.

Or just make a large enough claim around your fields like a normal person.

Loftar said that crops have been changed to use baseline soil q, ie unmodified by digging, precisely because it was too easy to grief farms.
