Then make it a 'civilization' modified value, in a civilized area it is safe to chop trees, but in the deep-dark-woods the Ents will spawn and jack you up. This will do for Forests what the Trolls and Cave-ins do for mines, make them feel dangerous or 'Moria', though the Ents should be weaker then Trolls as wood is a lower grade material. Of course it is only fair that the trees in the deep woods will have higher base quality too to balance the travel time and danger. Even assuming bucket grinding is fixed as an LP exploit it would still make the carrier of Lumber jack more interesting if their were a spectrum of risk-reward options with respect to trees, just as mining became more interesting with rock hardness, supports and Trolls.

I can see two sides to that. On the one hand, having it depend on proximity to Hearthfires/claims would solve some problems, but on the other, it would just drive the grinders to kill people's trees on their claims, where it's safe... except they'll be hunted down and killed.

I know, but it'd suck for new players to try to clear the area for their first log cabin and get skullfucked by a treeman. Something similar'd have to work.

I have a better idea. Why don't we all get an overhaul on the LP system so that no one ever needs to grind buckets again? :roll:

A case was put Ents in the game, they could not just attack, an NPC should be done with at least a little intelligence, unless it were a primitive race, that would be extremely rare, and this is already going into another subject, totally different from "We demand to protect our forests from bucket manufacturers!" that could be solved only by reducing the gain of LP.

If you think about it, it wont resolve bucket grinding issue at all. Animals are rare now. Sucks for hunters. Update comes out wit this idea and hunters cut for hours to gain extreme amount of LP. For clearcutting for spawning animals.
simple fix. Nerf bucket LP to 10 or 5 or better,0. There's no reason for buckets to give that much LP for one board.

Exactly, this idea is more efficient than putting animals that can kill us, including new players.
