I'd certainly hope that an idea as promising as curiosities is not being held up simply for lack of mere art assets, more likely it's due to Salem development taking precedence. The best possible scenario is that curiosities concept is actually being further developed in Salem right now and will be brought back to H&H once its finished. From what I've read this system will be make or break for my interest in either game, which ever implements it better will be the game I'd play.

This would be pure awesome. :D Especially since my char just died and I'm a bit disheartened to try gaining back my lost skills...

My question is, wouldn't this make those players who've been "playing" H&H longer that much better than newer players? As long as the old player just occasionally signs on and plays, gets these items... they'll still be gaining LP at a comparable rate to a new player who plays hard?

That's fine; players who are more active still have access to a lot of advantages - being able to get fur, hunt, build, etc, etc. This might also be true of players with excellent support structures from their villages, but that's an upside of sociality which shouldn't be discouraged.

On the other hand, we might have issues with alts left alone to become extremely powerful. I'm sure there's a way to address it.

Even so, unless certain tasks have higher odds to balance the often smaller scale duties of those tasks, trees will still be targets; can only farm so much in a day, depending on your farm size. Plenty of trees to chop.

Nah, it's not how the system works. On the test server, the number of curiosities you could have active at once was determined by your intelligence, and you couldn't have two of the same kind going at once. So yeah, you could still target trees alone, but you'd only be using one or two slots while people who play in communities and produce a variety of goods would be able to use all their slots and would thus get ahead of the macro chopper.
