I agree. I would actually love to see some use of NPCs so long as there are no NPC-ran shops. Combat units should be perfectly fine, however. Large-scale warfare could use some sort of overhaul.

Large scale warfare laggs everyone into oblivion and is entirely nonviable with the way the combat system works now.

Large scale warfare is also not very thematic. Brennu-Njáls saga speaks of families and brothers in feuds with each other, not of massive armies.
