Then it would be just fine.

+1 I love this idea, affecting mining chances to find ore as opposed to smelting is a wonderful idea.

I always assumed that's how it worked anyways.

It's a surprise to me that - being full nature - i can mine or just fine just not smelt it?

Weird.

As I understood it the chance of ore becoming a metal and not stone is determined the moment you extract it from walls. So you really shouldn't mine, but you can smelt it.

What if you made an incrementable(like cooking, sewing etc...) skill called smelting or mining or whatever. It would be capped at 100. So if you had 2 points in it you have a 2% chance 50 points 50% chance. That number is modified by your nature industry slider where 100% industry is x3 or 4 and 100% nature is 25% of the skill. This would let all nature people still have a chance if they put lots of lp but full industry people can get it with not very much lp expended.

I am a hermit, and currently I can mine just enough metal for my personal needs even at full nature and I would not want to see this ability taken away because of some obscure big village needs that I don't really care about.

You misunderstand. His suggestion would give you the same amount of metal with less charcoal used.
