I personally, outside of my role as chieftan will sell cow chorizos of varying quality (all above 10, in some cases mid 20's) to anyone who wants them at a cost of 5 copper coins each.

I will sell silk filaments for 10 copper each, threads for 80 copper and whole cloths for spastic high prices or something I'm in demand of.

I'll make you mid level leather gear (quality 30-40) for a negotiable amount of coins.

If you have coins, and want some gear, I will do my best to help you rid yourself of those coins.

The City Of Brodgar also plans on paying people in copper coins for cloth and fiber in the near future.

Is that enough backing for you?
I think CoB should focus on promoting silver or gold coins, as they don't have the problem of quality, so you can say something is 10 coins, and it is always 10 coins, instead of having to worry if the value is low should you charge more coins.

Yes, it might be easier to manage unfortunately only a handful of people actually WANT gold and they want it out of novelty. The lack of practical application is not conducive to establishing an economy. For Gold to become established, one of the wealthier towns must be accepting it as payment. Which some of them are.

but really...all this does is establish a trade between someone with a gold mine and those towns. It does not produce circulation. That more of a /shit on noobs matter than any flaw in a currency system though.

everyone that's offering to buy gold right now is asking for a bar of gold and offering 1-2 bars of other metal. my guess is that the exchange rate is going to be closer to one gold coin for 1-2 bars of other metals. take that as you will.

Well, if the wiki states the correct odds for how often gold turns into a bar, gold will be worth far more.

Prices for gold are only like that currently because it has no use yet.

I'd say that's more because it's excessively rare than because of a lack of function. In fact, gold existing outside the Q system suggests that it will not have a use.

Well, it actually will have "infinite" quality, so items crafted with gold will have their value will be decided through other means.

Gold and silver could be used for village authority objects, accessories(Bear tooth talisman with a gold chain?).
There's lots of other applications they could have, even just as add ons for current recipes.

Value of money to resource is always going to be changeable, the particular coinage we use isn't going to stop that.

I do agree that the CoB should make every effort to obtain and hoard gold and silver coins.
