Thoughts on the further development of Haven & Hearth? Feel free to opine!

I have to say, as a newb, I have a different outlook on this than the OP. I get the appeal of the frightening wilderness (and I do think there needs to be more types of animals...though they don't need to all be aggressive. What's with deer attacking me?! Deer flee, they don't (or varely rarely) charge. Bad deer! ;) ). As a beginning player with no friends in game, and no idea what I'm doing, adding more dangers doesn't sound good to me.

I'm glad you can't get rid of Enders, because I for one LOVE nightvision. It's half the reason I'm still playing today. I know the night is supposed to add to the feel of the game and to the "realism", but for me, it doesn't. For one thing, for some reason whenever I log in it is ALWAYS night. "Realistically", a person in this world would simply sleep at night and only work/go out during the day (Unless they're hunters or something, which I"m not). But because I always manage to log on at night, I'm stuck trying to farm in the pitch black...wtf? And in 8 hours, when the sun finally comes back up, I will have to log off. So, Enders works great for me.

I suppose you could try to implement a "real" day/night cycle....but with all the different people playing from different timezones, I don't see how that would work. (And with my luck, I'd end up STILL always logging in at night).

Weather might be a neat idea, though I'm not sure what actual effect it would have on the game outside of atmosphere and lag.

Anyway, as one of those players who isn't as interested in the fighting aspects of the game, I, for one, am glad Enders exists to help me stay safe from animals so I can worry about the true dangers of HnH: the people ;) .

Deer don't attack (usually) unless provoked, IRL and in game. I've seen videos of real deer attacking people, though, and you'd be surprised what those antlers and hooves can do to a man.

I know deer -can- attack...particularly males while in rut. But in general, when provoked a deer RUNS. They only fight when they have no other option. It's a minor grouch...I feel like deer, more so than, say, a fox or boar, should be one of the easier animals to kill. I have yet to kill a deer, but I hear they are one of the harder animals to take out...which doesn't make sense to me. The biggest dilemma to hunting deer irl is not being killed by it, it's finding it and sneaking close enough to hit it - otherwise they're pretty easy to take down.

Here's one spot where the game and RL are pretty close: If you're good with a bow (and have a good quality bow), you pretty much kill the deer in one shot. How hard is that? I'd never try to wrestle one in order to kill it, though.

I haven't melee'd anything yet...but using my sling (and no, nothing about me is high q - I'm too much of a noob) I can hurt a deer that is then healed by his friends. I've only tried once...but yeah..you'd HAVE to one-shot in order to take these things out (or 2 -3 shot).

Best bet in game is to pull the deer away from the herd and then get him to run in a direction other than back towards the herd. You can kill deer with a sling, though it's a pain and requires a few tricks to pull off. (Trapping in signposts and 'shoot when twitch', which I can never get to work.)
