I think a couple of skills that were linked to belief sliders would be interesting.
Say a flight skill/buff that is weighted on your peaceful slider to it's effectiveness, and can only be used if you're in peace mode in a combat. I like DDDs's idea about switching stamina drain to shp (maybe at a reduced drain rate), also I think maybe giving a boost to swimming for a short duration for those scared runaway swims. On the other side of the coin, have like a "scent of the hunt" buff that gives an attacker a scent ping on the last hearthling they were in combat with.
Of course I wouldn't know the effects of these on multiple target/allied battles, they could potentially be used in other ways.
