Someone has mentioned this before, but a useful addition to new weaponry would also be a training dummy.

Just something you could test your weapons/punches out on to see your damage output. An added benefit to this could also be the ability to outfit your training dummy in some armor.

Fuck yes!
I just said today ingame "I wish there was wooden swords or something lol".

My main goal for like a 2-3 weeks (half a month!! hardcore hustle everyday for fucking 2+ weeks!) has been getting a sword.
So hard to find someone who can trade a sword and all caves i find are already claimed.

All i friggin want is a sword... :(

Easy answers: drop a mine hole or buy trespassing. If they really wanted to claim that hole in the ground, they'd put a wall around it.

You make it sound easier than it is :/
I've wanted a sword pretty much since my first few hours in this game, when i tried to fight ants without even having bought the UA skill, went to forum and read the combat thread and found out about swords :P

Swords are considered mid-game weapons. A stone axe does more than a base punch unless you have a lot of strength (or access to decent quality cutthroat knuckles). If you work it hard enough, you can can have enough leather for a mine hole in just a couple of weeks. Until then, just buy trespassing and sneak into the caves that aren't blocked. Nobody can do jack squat about it. Odds are nobody will even find the scents (they expire in one game day).

The difficulty of getting a sword is simply a result of the difficulty of joining/forming/developing a village as a newby, which is partly a human problem, and partly that of the broken siege system.

Spears would be very nice though, for realism if nothing else.

I had a nice q30 iron node accessible from a cave and it was easily mined by a new character with a bear cape and q10 axe in w5. I found two tin nodes and an iron node in caves within a 10 minute walk of where I chose to settle in w6, both easily mined without a bear cape in w6. There are caves out there that are unclaimed, and a militia sword only needs wrought to make it. Thus, it's just a matter of someone putting in a bit of actual effort to find the materials needed to make a sword. They aren't actually all that hard to acquire as being reported in this thread.

The other issue is.... who actually has any skills to use one before you find metals, anyway, if playing a hermit?

When I first started playing I thought metal was SO hard to come by, but now I know how easy it is to make a sword, like MagicMan says, all it takes is a bit of effort, and that'll give you the time to get the skills to use it too.

I could find a use for it with only 10 UA, so it's not inconceivable that hermits can either.
