By "too accessible" I mean that anyone can wander into a cave with the mining skill and a stone axe and start looking for ore. Within 48 hours, a person can have a bear cape and bear tooth talisman to boost strength up. On the other hand, if you don't make it into the land grab in the first few weeks of the world, you might get stuck without a cave with easy access to ore and will have to go the excessively expensive route of building a minehole (which, yeah, still needs the same amount of leather as when changed in w4).

i found an instance where i made a mine hole and it was smack dab next to an inside cave claim. i only had a small spot to mine, and i was definnitelly butthurt on that one.
The sum of my experience is comprised up of more skeletons on my own claim then alot of you guys have wood blocks invested in your wall. But even though these skeles show i am a bad player- i still strive to continue through this vile territory in the hopes that one day i will have an army big enough to find you and murder all you know

Ouch.. Bleh. Maybe people just shouldn't be allowed to stake claim poles underground :P

Eh? Why shouldn't they? If they can't place them underground, why should anyone be allowed to place them anywhere?

Lots of things should be out of the reach of hermits. Mining is definitely one of them.

And yeah, maybe mining is too accessible in general. I remember w3 when (at least for me as a newbie mostly-hermit) metal was this incredibly rare thing I could only ever expect to trade for. Good! Encourages trade development.

Only parts of this post i don't agree with is the part where you say "little game" and the mining accessibility. people who are pro's at this game can be mining out iron unless then 3 days ive seen it before so im not sure what is so bad about it?

Playing as a hermit, I've usually got ores in under 48 hours. I can see an organized group hitting metal within a few hours of starting. That's assuming I can find an accessible cave. Short of that, you have to spend weeks getting enough was for the hardened leather to make your first mine hole. Trade can usually help speed that up, but then that's another matter to get a village totem up.

True i never took into account about the caves. but yeah it does take a while at least as a hermit to get a mine hole going.

i spent about an hour looking and found a cave, try inland, most people dont want the travel and so most of the natual resources that are a screen or 2 form a river are untapped (including caves)
i really need to find a good signature
