Nobody uses stalls to trade valuable stuff. Those are sitting ducks begging to be stolen.

And why have a system that encourages the use of useless alts and dualboxing? Being a member in multiple villages will not change the current status quo where you can be effectively member in how many villages you want by the use of partied alts and chief alts. It will just mean less hassle and less civilzation damage.

I'm not saying you put stuff there and leave it. I'm swaying you both meet up and trade, only you use a stall instead of a basket. That way village territory is not a problem.

I might get flamed for this, but one way to increase trade without increasing risk would be a postal system. It wouldn't have to be the global system many games use. You'd have to put the person's name and the village to send it to. It would take a amount of time based on the distance between them. Risk that the person wouldn't send your trade back is always a possibility. CoD and postage due are possible options for people without coins.

A system that allows instantaneous transportation of goods over long distances with no human interaction required sounds like the most boring thing

I didn't say instantaneous. It should take time based on distance and be available only at the village specified. Human interaction is usually too dangerous for meaningful trade routes.
