Off-topic: It's funny how what I see as cultural identity others seem to see as being exclusively racially supremacist. I know it's a symbol used by some pretty nasty people but that ties back into Onionfighter's comment on offensive expression.

On-topic: Flags would have the same use in-game as they have in real life, pretty much. Whether we have use for that at the moment or not is up for debate, probably, but I'm sure people would like to see a standard of say, Bottleneck, or a Goons Here flag. Dragging all the baggage of real-life flags into the game probably isn't worth it, though.

Potjeh's comment reminds me of how it was done in Guild Wars where you had two or three elements for guild capes/symbols, which I believe was cape shape, background pattern, and foreground symbol. Something mix-and-match like that would be neat (possibly with a bit more customization in terms of layers and where the elements appear on the flag)

Bold use of the word 'no' since no one truly knows the origin of the swastika, so my comment was the only semi-correct one. It's such a basic and common design that for all we know it was just a pretty pattern they decided to doodle on a napkin one day at a conference.

I agree with your last point, though. Custom flags would be pretty fun to play around with.
