TBH, that's probably due to the method of fighting. The ambush and harassing tactics used by the colonists might have worked against the Indians they were usually fighting, but it didn't do enough damage to the vast numbers of the British Army.

The problem with that was the distance involved. The British had to send troops and resources across the Atlantic to attack, where as over here we had the advantage of knowing the terrain and having all the resources right where we could get them.
