Unless you get thorns in your feet while chopping. In the case mentioned (losing shoes after being tackled by a boar), that'd be a problem.

To the extent that there was one, the original "game design" actually called for precisely that, a "Havenopedia", as I had been playing a lot of civ 4 at the time. A system like that is however extremely maintenance intensive (it needs to be kept up to date when we change mechanics and whatnot) so we haven't bothered (and it's not currently on our list of priorities). I'd rather write descriptive tooltips for the buffs, truth to be told.

I only good thing about wurm online was the way when you look at a item it gave you the option to bring up the wiki on that item. I think that would also work pretty well in this game.

There is a certain satisfaction to giving bits of wisdom to newbies. Things that aren't necessarily in the player-run wiki. Even keeping knowledge that isn't common for yourself.

I think there shoouldn't be a dev-run wiki. hoarding knowledge is fun.

I wouldn't like it removed so much as a newbie grace period of a few days where boars are not hostile, thorns don't kill you and you get a bit of time to learn the mechanics.
Maybe a small survival guide that tells you the fact a boar attacks you or torns in your feet hurt. yah know? I don't want it removed but it almost killed me many times.

Make clogs. Problem solved. I don't know about you, but when I played I carried an axe around with me almost everywhere I went. XD

I think that the occurance of Thorn in the Foot should be decreased if you crawl(showing that you are going on an extremely slow speed, trying to be careful, etc). You still make the point to the player how going without shoes is a Very Bad Thing, without making people KO repeatedly. That said, I can't say that it was too difficult to just stand there and rest for enough SHP to get through a few thorns in the foot.

Don't think it really matters anymore, since you're most likely dead anyways after getting K/O'd in World 4 :]

Thorns were much worse back when a new character started with what, 30 HP if I recall correctly?

Also Thorns create no demand for shoe trades between players because only new character who make their own clogs from the nearest stump ever have those "oh shit my shoes are gone and I am dieing!" moments and are invariably not some ware they can buy shoes when it happens.

Its just annoying; I was immensely discouraged with one character after the thorn in the foot, after getting my ass beat by ants. Its like slow torture - I honestly was a lot less bothered when a character died. Feeling like you can do something, even if it is to crawl on my character's hands and knees, would help with the sense of helplessness.
