I'm also in favor of equipment based caps on combat skills.
To balance things I think the cap should be something like 50+equipmentQL. That will make it possible to fight unarmed even while naked, and ensures that new players who can't make high ql stuff yet can at least get their combat skills high enough to kill foxes and boars.
Once a man has changed the relationship between himself and his environment, he cannot return to the blissful ignorance he left. Motion, of necessity, involves a change in perspective.

Yeah, I don't see a problem with inherent cap bonus. Hm, this gives me another idea - base cap could scale with some stats, to make them more relevant for PvP (IMO stats aren't important enough ATM).

That would open room for a lot more strategy in equipment selection, rather than everyone wearing steel plate and dragon helm in a developed world. Oh, and thanes should just boost your cap rather than boost your actual melee, since it'd be too easy to make a competitive combat character otherwise (which would in turn foster griefing).

I am all for this.

What does World 3 have to do with it? Welcome to H&H.

I belive in "peaceful" gameplay but i have to say that Jorb have reason.
I didnt believe in killing other players so i have learned all skills except trespasing and murdering(and i have lp to buy them) but sadly the pvp is necesary.

Ill resume for new players Jorb words:

"Peaceful" rules = 1000 players of 12 years old in your farm shouthing fuck for 4 hours because is fun.
Someone that fenced all your propierty in a maze pattern.
A player that stop your char walking in front of you for 1 hour.

Even if we dont believe in war and killing chars i think like Jorb and Loftar that this is necesary for the good working of game.

Good job ; )

Please close this thread. There is already a method in place for avoiding pvp. It's called don't log in the bloody game.

Why? It could be a good discussion if we didn't have people posting asinine remarks.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

If we close this thread we can't tell people to post here with their crying. It serves as a dump of sorts.

When the world is fresh and new it is lawless, but once honourable villages and towns have been established control starts to form. I had some of my stuff stolen at the start of W5, so I spoke to someone I met from a nearby town and he came, could see the scents and identified the thief's hideout, while he wasn't able to do anything about it right then he had identified the "bad guys". This is exactly how I think it should be.

As for caps on unarmed etc, I think thats just wrong. each level costs more than the previous one, perhaps that could be increased once over a certain point, lvl 105 currently costs 10500 lp (105*100), perhaps it should be lvl^2 after lvl100, so 105 would cost 11025 lp, lvl 150 = 22500 not 15000. A real world precedent is that someone who is strong and practices fighting/knows more skills/tactics is going to be better than someone who only knows a bit. Athletes keep pushing themselves to set faster, longer, higher, better records.

I try not to think "realism" belongs in a game, although in HnH it fits better than most. I find a real world precedent makes more sense, then people can understand why something happens.
