It could be argued that cauldron and fire related reciepts should be changed to run automatic though by giving them inventories to drop the ingredients into and let it process. So you could offload your ingredients, start the process and return a bit later to collect the result - or let it boil/roast till you can scrape off black goo from the cauldron since the proteins denaturated into some form of sticky tar residue.

Grinder and milling flour could be paired with water- or windmill (or something bull driven) to do the mechanical work for the same result there - this would actually make sense since building a windmill should be somewhat easier than to come up with the method to do steel alloys.

Totally agree. Granger usually comes with the most elegant solutions.

Here are some ideas: make process still take time, but not require player presence. This could be done by adding special, village-class, immovable items that perform the same functions as other objects, but on a larger scale, and without needing players to be there the whole time. Examples:
  • vats that hold huge amounts of water, and that can be used as double boilers to enable compartmentalization of normal cauldron processes
  • mills that can grind lots of flour at a time
  • fire pits that can cook multiple slabs of meat at a time, and possibly some new recipes
  • bigger ovens
  • bigger smelters, forges and crucibles
  • extra large looms that can make larger cloth pieces that can be cut up if needed

Of course, the problem that arises when people have more time on their hands is what will they do with that time?

Big plows, powered with bulls n cows.
and slaves to operate with all that stuff

Why are you being mean to me?? I am just stating the fact that paving thousands of tiles is rather time consuming and I also seemed to have placed a sad face beside it, which may or may not be related.

ok.

No... do not eliminate hourglass completely. Make faster working with better dex, str, agi,... More stats u have faster u work with stuff. So chopping down trees, gathering stones and so on (hard work) should be effected by stra. Carrying speed should be effected by str*agi, crafting should be affected by dex or dex*agi,... So at start you are slow and clumpy. but when u progress through the game and get some stats u start working faster coz it become routine. And more ur character practice, faster he will work. Also this can be affected by skill values. Like crafting smith stuff should be affected by str + smithing + dex? Dunno... something like here...

Careful about making things too fast..

1) The faster people can get things done the faster they'll finish and log out and the less opportunity there is to interact with them (in peaceful or hostile ways).

2) Potential abuse of the world (e.g. rampant deforestation) becomes more viable the faster actions can be carried out.

yeah, we're pretty much doing the "no gameplay at all" thing again. In W4, I'd be fishing hunting, or getting clay for my LP right now. Instead, I'm logged out, waiting for my ant soldiers and toy chariot to finish being studied.

Fun stuff.
