Ok I think I see the problem here, you misinterpreted "your scent collection" to mean "collecting your OWN scents" which would obviously be stupid (particularly because 'friendlies' aka people with claim privileges don't leave scents). What I meant was that if your a friendly of a claim and you collect a HOSTILE scent then that act of collection is considered equivalent to the owner doing it and the collection action defends the claim.
This in no way transfers any ownership to the friendly, in fact their is no 'transfer' at all, a claim can only be eroded until it dies and then a new claim put over the same ground by a new party. Try to read the original post in-full next time and read what I actually said would be the mechanic not just the primer on Hostile-Possession.
