Cave-friendly structures

Postby mikaela1988 » Wed Oct 06, 2010 9:43 am

Since I just recently made a cave my home (I don't like ordinary wooden cabins  ), I've been thinking about how I cannot bake or do pottery stuff without going outside. So, I've thought of cave-friendly "primitive" versions of the standard kiln, oven and smelter that can only be built inside a cave (or a mine).
For example, a "primitive oven" would require 30 bricks and 10 stones and would only have 2 slots for baking. Less slots (and perhaps longer baking times) makes it a bit convenient but not so much as to truly replace a standard oven. And while they are active and you are inside the cave, there can also be a debuff that lessens your CON and PER (that lasts a while even when you go outside) due to the smoke. Or you can build a smokestack.

Also, caves need to be less spidery and more caverny. :D

Why always with the suggestions that impose arbitrary limitations on yourselves. Why would a "primitive oven" require brick at all. A stat-lowering debuff, what the hell?

And if you had actually searched on the subject, you might have seen the comments on how the current ovens are too small, or the fact that back in world one you could build anything in caves; and that the devs are considering bringing some of this back.

That's good to hear then. I have been searching, but it seems it wasn't enough.

Would be funny when you are baking inside a cave and all the smoke comes out of your cave enterance. Smoking Cave ftw.

And now you reminded me how much I want a chimney.

But yes, some cave-specific furnitures and tool buildings for the caveman feel, as long as they can be made with low tech stuff (bricks are pretty "high tech" if you live in a freaking cave.) I second the idea that they should be inferior to higher tech versions: if clay claudron is inferior to metal cauldron, caveman's oven should be inferior to brick oven in some way, although less baking slots would be just aggrivating. Longer baking times if you must, but i'd prefer if it just halved quality.

Also, troglodite homes carvable into cliffs, please. They wouldn't be part of the cave system, it's just that the entrace would be in the cliff. Build it the same way as a cellar except they would just require stone working instead of locks&bolts. They wouldn't require much material (or any material at all maybe?) but you'd have to remove boulders. Inside would be 4x4 (or even 3x3, just enough for a bed and like two crates?) and they'd count as caves/mines for building purposes (and cheese?)
Realistically they would require a pickaxe, but then they won't be so newbie friendly (until mines become more available to newbies or pickaxes can be made from something other than metal.)

i actually think that all metallic items need non-metallic counterparts

definitely more weapons and armor. Stone needs a LOT more uses
