"Hot" item detection

Postby Phizuol » Thu Dec 02, 2010 8:31 pm

Either as part of the Ranging skill or a new skill have the ability to determine if an item is currently "hot" or not. IE, if a theft scent is currently active for the item. This would assist in returning stolen items and in avoiding purchasing stolen items that may later be tracked by rabid rangers that wipe out your village and stamp swastikas on the fields.

Could possibly be implemented in the tooltip, the item smokes green, or as a color shading of the item (similar to how decayed items appear red.)

Someone suggested that you could click with a dream in hand on an item, and if the item has scents pointing to it, the dream will turn into a "Horrible Nightmare" item, with different graphics, but is otherwise still a dream (for now).
I did like this way of doing it, because it:
-requires a conscious action by the suspicious one.
-dreams are basically a "free resource", so if you are paranoid, checking every trade will not cost anything, except
-dreams are abit of a hassle to get, so you get the choice between being paranoid, which only costs you some playing time, or running the risk (of non-detection)
