Next map: random base terrain for each supergrid

This would make some basic resource trading possible, also reduce the amount of "good" lands in the game and add more varied landscape. Some possible outcomes depending on SG's base terrain:

Grasslands/Hearthlands: good for hunters and other sorts nomads.
Forests: very similar to current SGs, the heaven of tree cutters and timber-house hippies.
Deep water: for all those that cried to have maps with islands in them.
Mountains: For mining operations that will require extra support from rare, farm-able land. Probably difficult to survive in as a noob.
Mudflats: The heaven for clay diggers.

With such changes, SG intersections between the most important of SGs would probably become the best places to live in and people would wage wars for them.

Any extra suggestions welcome ;)

Coastal cities! Comerce and trading overseas! Sailing ships! PIRATES!

Edit: This game is the best to dream with when it comes to content.

I'd love that. The maps as they currently are suck in terms of viewing the world as a whole. They're only useful if you don't intend to look anywhere further than your supergrid. We need continents and actual rivers, although that's very likely troublesome to code, yeah. Plus sea water works very differently than just any water, and they'd need exclusive tiles. Coastal cities and trading cogs (sea wagons?) would be a good start though. :( Seems like an unavoidable path if they intend the game's players to form states and make international deals. Traveling by boat on those rivers suck, and you always end up having to carry the boat by foot to a large extent if you intend to go a bit too far. Also, if we ever get piracy we'll need a swimming overhaul.

+1 to the idea.

Also, maybe the map could be custom created by Jorbtar, by specifying which type of ground goes where.

Sure it'd be hard, but it would allow for the world to look so much more realistic.

I know exactly what you mean. This game is awesome when it comes to the possibilities of things the Dev's could possibly do.

Imagine an actual Earth-like, round globe. Ice in the extreme north and south. Desert in the middle.

Reading the boat posts, I just thought of a Trireme(Greek) ship. You would be able to sail it into another ship and slow it down/destroy it and collect the loot :D

I guess a viking dragon ship would fit the setting more though ;)

Drawing a realistic map wouldn't be difficult at all as long as hill and trees could still be placed by the generator. Hell, I'd do it. I did it for fun once.
