Lets take this to the next step and have 'cave-in-hazard' vision with color coding green/yellow/orange/red showing the relative risk factor with each tile. You could see the initial safe zone along a wall without guessing. This type of 'vision' could be accessed with a new skill which has Mining as a prerequisite and costs maybe 10-20 K LP so it would be attractive to miners but not something everyone is going to go out and grab up.
Perhaps their could even be 'flaws' in the rock walls causing them to have +1 above the normal danger levels so getting this skill would actually give you access to something beyond what others could determine given the know cave-in rules. It also means their would be no completely safe tiles as that safe tile might be flawed which would make it a low danger tile instead.
