We demand to protect our forests from bucket manufacturers!

I love tree crusaders and bucket grinders. It would be wonderful for them to die in accidents here and there...
So.
If there are a lot of trees cut down in a short period of time, the disaster happens in the location. It can be invasion of rats/army of bears/forest spirit/Chuck Norris and so on. Just need to make it unefficient to grind on this purposely (make it once-a-day event, for non-trivial proposal.)
It maybe better not to protect all forests by such a way, but only "sacred" or "dark" ones. Accidents will be fun enough. This also can make population density less monotonous.

edit: Oh, I forgot to put lightning in the list.

Tree cutting should be sorta like mining and trolls. The more trees you cut in a certain radius, the higher your odds of an Ent spawning and wrecking your shit.

Three-five trees are almost alright, and better then fields of stumps, imo.

I think you're forgetting the fact that people don't just chop trees for LP.

Someone might be clearing out an area to build in, building their palisade, building houses, etc.

There's plenty reasons to deforest an area other than bucket grinding.

Bad idea.

This would be a nice way to punish bucketers.

Yes, yes, yes! If you have reasons for cutting trees, do it properly: unhurriedly and with respect. Do not attract nature's wraith, it is still much stronger than hearthlings.

I guess there could be an issue involving city building...

Hmmm, but I really love my idea about random Ents popping up and beating the crap outta people...

And before long people would find a way to use landslides in moderation as paths, therefore making it easier to live in ridge-filled areas.

On an unrelated note, I am a proud member of the Church of Sabinate. Gib monies and don't get repotted!
