Show grid command

Because you're placing stuff permanently all the time and just eyeballing it often leads to mistakes.

when building snap to is default,
when dropping I believe hold shift to snap to grid.

Visually showing a grid has been suggested before and the dev's rejected it because it would be teh ugly

Building is fine but when planting trees, crops, plowing, or laying stones it's difficult to tell where something is going to appear even when you hold shift. You could place something thinking you clicked near the center of a tile but in actuality you clicked the edge of one, so it still doesn't get placed where you want it to. If you like to do landscaping or even stuff as simple as placing crops and trees in organized lines it's really frustrating- if you guess wrong about where the grid square is you're shit out of luck unless you want to cut down the tree and plant another, and crops you can't destroy so you have to wait until they grow then cut them down. Paving stones are just as bad. A grid would be really nice as you can place stuff in relation to other things easily but a ghost image like with buildings would be fine...

well, I guess if you need to be painstakingly accurate then you're going to need to experience some pain

Although tedious, the only ways to work around the problem is to place objects (shift-right click) and build sites as references to what you exactly want to do with the ground like paving stone or planting trees. But yeah, a toggling show grid (like the show village/personal ones) would be also nice.

While it is still there, you can always use the old land-claiming system - ctrl + L.
That's what I use when I need to measure something, like when I wrote "CAKETOWN" with flax. :)
