scraping stuff and regaining some of material used

Postby zann0 » Fri Mar 11, 2011 7:52 pm

Some time ago I my avatar got mauled by boar it happened near my hause so it wasn't a problem to get back my stuff but there was a glitch that did't allow me to tak my backpack, after few unsuccessfull tries i have got annoyed and made next one with spare skins that i had, and as according to murphy's laws when i tried taking the bag from my corpse once again it worked and i just wasted my skin and i thought why there's no option to scrap stuff !! Taking my unusefull rucksack why not scrape it for one or two pieces of leather with lowered quality or destroying a plow that is not needed to regain one board or you have found metal cauldron that is on the verge of disappearing and u destroy it to regain one metal coin. of course all materials from scraping could have their quality highly degraded

As someone with a similar name, I feel obliged to agree.

Pretty sure this is a common suggestion.

Also, the backpack isn't removable if there is anything within the space where the backpack added to the inventory. So if you had (for example) a branch in the bottom right corner, then you can't remove it. This applies for traveler's sacks too, and probably merchant robes.
Signed,
that guy who did that thing same as the first II

Devs have discussed this before and explained why this isn't going to happen. Tracking quality of materials used and exact materials used is a massive waste. To return the materials to you, for say an anvil, it'd have to remember exactly what types of metal you used, what quality you put them in it, and calculate what quality to return them out at. So now it's tracking a lot more numbers and variables persistently and suddenly LAGG. Crops are already a dynamic object that the game constantly tracks and small fields lagg anyone who passes by.

It's a feature that benefits no one and would rarely be used (why not just destroy crap if you're not going to repair it?) and only causes farm to others nearby and the server.

If they actually said that then they were blowing smoke up your ass, Lagg from crops is caused by the client side rendering inefficiencies.

Items like Anivils are the exception in being created from a material catagory (hard metal). Most objects are made from specific items and could be decomposed into thouse same items using the quality of the item with not one extra bit of data being stored on the server. Even the metal object could be adressed by the creation of a new object called Hard/Soft Alloy or something along thouse lines, objects like Anvils would be decomposed to this regardless of what metal they were originally composed of and the Alloy would then be usable for only generic usage.

Alternativly the requirement could be changed such that an item must be made of all the same type of metal, once the first bar or nuggett is entered the common/hard symbol changes and only matching metal will be accepted unlesss its all removed which retrun the common/hard metal symbol. Then the finished item will visualy show it metal type by coloration and be decomposed back to that metal without having to track individual input material types or qualities. Basicly theirs are plenty of ways to do this without adding any additional server load.

If the Devs don't want it for some game play related reason thats a whole other issue.

The quality and materials wouldn't have to be exact. Everything already has quality even if we can't see it (e.g. oven quality). So let's say you built an oven with 10 q10 black bricks, 10 q15 yellow bricks, and 25 q30 red bricks. The final quality of the oven comes out to be q22 or something. You decide to take the thing apart since it's a piece of shit. The bricks you get in return would be, say, q10-q22 at random (based on the oven being q22) and the brick colours could also be random or simply all be one colour. There could also be something like a 25% chance of ruining the material for each material, so you probably wouldn't manage to get all the materials back. Better than nothing or wasting your time/stamina destroying a thing, though. If there was a feature like this, perhaps there should be a new black skill like "sabotage" to be able to do it to stuff you don't own.
