the utility of beer

Postby bitza » Fri Apr 22, 2011 1:40 pm

beer in its current state is impractical. it's much more labor intensive than wine, takes up a significant bit of hunger, and offers no benefit over wine other than easier mass storage. previously beermaking gave a fair bit of LP but obviously that isn't the case anymore.

the days of cheap miner alts are over, mining is done on mains now and those characters need FEP. what i propose then is to have beer again give a small amount of FEP, seems as though STR or CON would be the intuitive choices, and to also have the reduction bonus stack with wine - that is, to treat beer as a "full fledged" food.

The reduction bonus *does* stack with wine. There's also Bierwurst, which is pretty damn good despite what Avu says. But yeah, more recipes with beer would be nice.

Main benefit of beer is that it's easy to mass-produce.

24 boards per 160L for wine
5 boards per 100L for beer

Most people would take the space saving of buckets of wine over the "ease" of beer in barrels.
