Planting on Grass

Postby DatOneGuy » Fri Apr 22, 2011 7:20 pm

I've always enjoyed more options, but simply having some options hinder you severely.

Was thinking it would be cool if you 'could' plant on grass (without plowing) but there would be downsides to it, slower growing times, chance that the plant doesn't reach final growth (grows to stage 2-3 and then just dies [has to be manually removed]).
Would be funny for people who are rushing to fuck up and then have to wait 6+ hours just to see if now they're one short, but won't hurt people who continue to do it properly.

Just an idea to toss out there.

Either everybody would use it, or nobody would use it, depending on the pros/cons of it. The way you've currently described it I can't see anybody actually planting on grass, except maybe to vandalize huge grasslands with their excess seeds.

It's not meant to help the player, it's meant to be a pain in the ass. Instead of saying "You can't do that", it's better to say "Oh you can do it, but since you fucked up, deal with it".
Also just more stuff in general to hear newbies cry.

I agree that more choices is always a good thing, but with stuff like this there's always an option that's clearly better than the other and that everyone (save from a few stupid people) will use instead.

Kind of like buildings on grassland. Yeah, technically you can build that log cabin directly on grass, but no one does it because it's not really worth it vs the effort of plowing/paving a 7x7 area.

Well, if those plants made world 2-alike patches of plants(10ql) that`d be neat. This way one can just put a carrot into a grass and three months later passing newb would take 3 carrots out of it.

I was actually considering something similar but less... uhh... retarded (op has history of terrible suggestions)

The idea was, make crops like trees, vary yield and growth based on terrain they are planted in - grass/forest/dirt. Also, have plows work on dirt and change terrain straight to dirt instead of plowed.

I was just tossing an idea out there, not exactly caring to refine it.
From what I understand farming will still undergo an actual change in the future, so it's pointless to put out ideas any more thought out than "Hey yeah that'd be cool"

Would be nice to have them work on different terrains that way though.
