cast-netting (fishing)

search words: cast + net + fishing

this would be used to catch more than one fish at a time, with obvious reasons to be an advantage.

i'm thinking along requirement lines of: 1 rope, 20 string, 10 rocks (just like fishing line, hidestrap or nettle cant be used.)

it gives a chance of catching up to 3 fish per cast and does not require bait.

im sure there is more detail to go into here but my mind has gone pretty blank atm, so what does everybody think.

Well considering a soon as people see my name they expect a bad post...

Also thinking that in order to give some level of competition with the rod, perhaps the net should only be able to catch 1x1 fish or 2x1 fish so to catch the bigguns you need to use the rod

This could work for some fish, such as perch, that stay in schools, or maybe add some other fish like herring or sardines in that this would work with. Otherwise, throw nets don't work so well for catching more 'game' type fish that we have in HnH. Those usually require drag nets of some sort. The fish usually stay too deep or spook too easily.

Otherwise, nice idea.

I've got a better idea than nets. Around my parts we call them 'trot lines'. Basically, it's a long line with several hooks tied too it and then anchored to the bottom of the lake or river with floats tied to either end to keep it up off the bottom. A legal line in my state allows 25 hooks. You can literally catch anything that swims on these things. (Well, maybe won't be catching minnows, but... :p)

Positive side: Makes fishing a bit more passive. You'd still have to go out and bait hooks every day, and lures won't work, though I've gotten fish on bare hooks before. Negative side: someone else can come along and run your lines before you get to collect your catch.

I think the idea is to allow a person to catch fish faster, however, I think I've made my points against it. Maybe this makes fishing too passive.

I like it. It presents an alternative.

Can we also get lobster pots while we're at it? How does a hearthling know how to make a stone lobster when there are no real lobsters?

i like the idea, i also like the idea

that you can leave it in the water for Hours/days
and Like a curding tub, it generates so many fish per time
Based on its QL

If you have to leave it in the water, no one could complain that this is overpowered. because you cant Protect them , so someone could come along and jack ya =]

i like it

I like the idea of new ways to fish. Maybe a new skill after basic fishing to use?

Cast nets are suppose to be used to catch bait fish, so if they added a small minnow type fish you could cast net to catch them in large numbers then use those to fish for things in the river.
