Animal speed

Postby Westraptor » Mon Sep 19, 2011 11:33 pm

I just rencently started hunting and I noticed that animals like fox and boars run away when there almost dead. They run at full speed which is kind of un realistic because they are wounded. I don't know about anyone else but I think wounded animals should run slower. say one speed down?

No. Hunting is painfully easy as it is.

Only if animals are able to swim to compensate for this

I shot a deer in the chest once with what I thought was a lethal hit. However, it missed the heart and hit a lung because it took off at a full sprint for nearly a mile before it fell over from the lack of oxygen. So much for that 'running away injured at full speed' bit....

If anything is unrealistic, it's those damn deer healing everything that comes near them. Nearly got ran over by a bear I was chasing down after it ran past a herd of deer I didn't see. I would have just waited and let it come back, but was afraid it was going to run off the map and despawn. Yeah for hunting in good armor and having enough Agi and UAC to survive a few hits from one of the beasts.

I agree with the OP here, I've been meaning to make a similar post for a while. I don't think it makes sense that when hunting with a sling from a boat, Bears are the easiest and Foxes are the hardest, yeah Bears take ages but unless you can corner a fox on grassland where you can sprint for a bit I'd say it was trickier. Then again I haven't hunted foxes with a sling since I learned about deagroing (which was after I got a bow).

Ok, but make animals constantly move or run away if they are shot and cannot reach the attacker.
Without the ability to make them stop running by ending combat

Lets just all agree that animal AI sucks ass. It's one of the things that Loftar and Jorb are always looking to improve, but it's not one of those "critical" areas compared to things like siege mechanics and such. Hunting is here to supplement game play and the core concepts, not be the core of it.

Foxes are not easier than bears to kill in any regard; foxes are passive while you cage them in rather than trying to maul your head off. If you're killing a bear with a q10> sling then you're paying for them not running with the hour or two you're going to sit there throwing rocks at them. Foxes are also considerably easier to handle in melee combat.

The core problem is not that foxes are a little bit faster than you, the problem is that they're really stupid and we, as players, are really lazy.

Like I've said in global chat, I always thought it would be great if they made it so bears can swim. Who's safe now boat hunters?
