So long and thanks for all the fish.

Thoughts on the further development of Haven & Hearth? Feel free to opine!

So long and thanks for all the fish.

First, I'd like to say that I did enjoy the game, but I dont have the time to do upkeep.

Now, my thoughts on the game.

A) LP gains are too spiky for my taste. You can find a decent amount early on with discoveries, but that wont cover the 4k+ lp that you need for Yeoman. Curiosities are nice for LP gains, but you dont always have access to the materials needed.
B) Clay is too hit or miss. I get that you dont want high quality clay easily accessable for anybody, but early on, people tend to care more about the product than the quality.
C) Lag. I get that this is an early alpha of a F2P game, and that the server may not be the greatest in the world. Fine, but it the lag might want to be looked into, as I was stutterstepping all over the place.
D) Finally, Trees, they should spread. If you get spawned next to a place where a bunch of other people spawned, you run the risk of it being extremely barren in terms of trees.

A) You just havne't been playing long enough. The last time I bothered logging in my main character, I was getting 150-200k LP a day. (Of course, this was with good quality materials from farming and mining.) Early on gaining LP has always been hard because you just haven't had the chance to adjust your personal beliefs.
B) I'll agree on the clay. However, it's a relatively unneeded resource after you get your first ovens and kilns. The one big exception is that when you go to build a brick wall. Other than that, you want high quality clay, which, just like soil and water, you're probably going to have to trade for.
C) It's not an early alpha, it's a permanent alpha. This is just a sandbox for development as much as it is for the players.
D) No. They'd just get into the way of the ones I'm trying to plant. If you think it's bad now, you should have seen it in w3. There were whole deforested minimaps because people were just cutting down trees to make buckets over and over and over and over.

As a note on the last, that's how LP was gained. It wasn't so bad in w3 as the gains were limited. The current mining system was implemented in w4 and it made botting LP so easy it was ridiculously broken. A small group of players had literally gotten as many LP in under two months as players took six months to get in w3.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

I think they tried this in W3 or W4. I distinctly remember it being on for a couple days and trees popping up in a lot of places they shouldn't have been.

Ya, it was tested in w3 and the algorithm was too buggy. It caused all sorts of problems and won't be implemented again until it's fixed.
