Who cares of new player's stuff (If it's not another "new player"') ?
Sure, newbies would got stolen twice as much, but in another hand, assuming they don't have much (they are newbies) they won't loose much.

How do you deal with something like a lean-to where you can even keep chests in it? (A lean-to can already be vandalized for the content, so guess not as much changes there.) What happens if someone gets dumped from a d/c? Should the bad just automatically be located at the character's hearth fire?
Personally, I think there's too little protection in the game other than going to the extreme of using hearth vaults. I'm going to say that it's not going to make me quit playing if it does get implemented in some way, but I probably won't like it and I certainly won't be playing the same way.
The bag would just appear at the character last position before disconnecting.
The fact that your character and his stuff are safer when you are offline than when you're online sounds bad to me.
How to explain that? Parallel safe dimension?
I'd actually want to make it possible to kill people when it's sleeping (or more generally, offline) without scents needed.
Maybe that would be called "Assassination" and left some scents which would last for 2 weeks.
