Millitia & Hunting Tools

Just a few thoughts;

Hunting Spears: Made from nothing but wood and stone, these are weak weapons that strike often, and do a damage bonus if they strike on the first attack. They may also allow slightly slower fishing, but the main use would be for very basic hunting with something better than an axe.

Tactics: thirty bowmen fighting a hundred swordsmen in an open plain would be slaughtered. Those same bowmen fighting in densely wooded areas and with good leadership would likely win! We need better combat balance so that a few inexperienced fighters hiding in the woods would stand a chance against a lone high-level melee character, but probably not if they try to ambush him inside an enclosed space like a cave.
Surprise.

i would like a spear as well, but in addition to the stone spear, a metal tipped one as well. really, there should be a lot more weapons and armor.

'specially spears, seeing as how they're one of the oldest weapons in the world.

And sharpened sticks. We need pointy sticks for newbies.

Boar tusk spear anyone?
Throwing weapons would be nice.
You see a masterful engraving by Blaze. On it is Blaze, bears, boars, and foxes. Blaze is striking down the bears. The boars are screaming. The foxes are in a fetal position. The image relates to the return of Blaze in the late winter of 2009.

H&H should have few weapon types but a lot of variance due to Quality Level.

1. Base damage doubled (StoneAxe-10, MilitiaSword-20, SoldierSword-30)
2. Actual damage = BaseDmg * QL * 0.05

So each QL increases a weapon's damage by 5%, and items have base damage at QL20 (meaning if you're currently using QL10 weapons your actual damage remains unchanged.)

Obviously the amount of variance can be tweaked by reducing the "0.05". I'm not sure I'd go much higher than that, but it might make sense to go lower.

I left out the strength multiplier to damage because (a) it made the system look more complicated and (b) it varies by weapon currently according to the wiki (which seems a little questionable. stone axe gets 50% str and the swords only get 33% str?)

With this system, 3 types of swords is plenty. You could add unique melee weapons (like a Spear with good reach, and perhaps a "throw spear" option) and have Bows, but having lots of redundant weapons won't really add much to the game, and will start to detract from the Quality system.
