Key Tweaks

Postby Etherdrifter » Sun Mar 25, 2012 10:31 pm

Well today marks nearly a month of playing H&H ^_^

A few things have struck me as odd about keys.

1. Key alts. Probably accounting for about 15% of the server population?

2. Gates as a whole. So you got killed and lost your key. Maybe you put it in a basket and it decayed? Who knows how you lost it. Point is you're now locked in. "Fuuu!!!"

3. Metal is required to duplicate keys but you get a free one for each gate. This tends to lead to a mass of gates in low level hamlets!

4. Only utter nublets walk around with their keys and without a key alt. So generally the only people who suffer are said nublets.

So how to work around these 4 points. A few simple changes perhaps? Players can open all gates on their own claim (this does not work for villages and claims on villages are subject to a village option for this to be true). Players can also give others permissions to open and close the gates on their claim without keys (all or nothing). Keys are still generated but no longer need be taken out of a claim by a claim owner (eliminating 1), if they lose their key (somehow) they are no longer locked in (2 fixed) and you don't end up with a wall of gates (fixing 3). Needless to say nublets will still be nublets but at least a few more won't suffer needlessly (sort of poking 4 with a stick)XD

If someone loses his key, he can make a battering ram.

I think the devs already have a solution for this. They're busy getting Salem finished, though, so there aren't going to be any mechanics changes until after that's released.

A bit of searching might help for other ideas on the matter (it's probably brought up at least once a month). You're pretty new here, so there's some dynamics on how development works around here that you're just not familiar with (namely that nothing is being developed). Just remember that 99% of your thoughts have probably already been addressed so search around before actually posting anything.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
