A new look on claims when you die, and your killer.

A new look on claims when you die, and your killer.

So as I were immersed in my deep philosophical thoughts whilst searching for ants to raid I had what i think is quite a nice idea on the workings of claims when you die. (this is a post of complaining about all the dead claims)

So in my idea, basically claims will run as per the norm and function as they always have. But, I think it would be a nice (quite a large waste of time) mechanic, if upon death the claim became a "title" for want of a better word. What I mean by this;

Part one;
The actual claim
When a claim owner dies, the claim will remain, but not as an actual claim, rather than being told "that land is owned by somebody" you would have "that land is claimed by somebody" however the claim itself would be pretty aesthetic. You can take things, and do whatever without criminal acts, or perhaps you still do leave scents, but they are more "ghost scents" that can't be summoned. More or less I mean that when the owner of a P.claim dies the stake remains but the claim acts like a village that has no auth.

Part two;
The claim stake
A dead mans claim stake becomes interactable by 2 people. The killer of that person, and the direct descendant of the deceased. (possibly the L.S if a village claim covers the entirety of the P.claim, who could then declaim it for half the normal amount of auth, or none at all.)

anywho, When the killer kills the killed he can interact with the dead claim stake, provided he does not own a personal claim of his own (so he would have to declaim first if he had his own) at in this interaction he has the opportunity to; take the claim for himself, not take the claim for himself, or revoke the claim completely.
The direct descendant can interact with it and will have the same options provided he get to it before the killer. however if the descendant revoke the claim he then inherits the lp. The killer would not, Or maybe he would, it would be a great reward, for the raid, but most likely provoke alt farming, then killing them for the lp gain.

I can think of no idea to stop people just using alts to p.claim everything then never log on again, but well, we can't win everything

EDIT: Obviously the direct descendant cannot interact with the claimstake (other than to declaim it) until he/she has yeomanry.
Also meaning if by some stroke of absurdity the killer does not have yeomanry he/she cannot interact with it at all.

Very popular amusement today is tracking scents from such forgotten camps. Do you want it to disappear? :(
Although I'm sick and tired of those claims, too. Needless to say I had very similar ideas except for the second part.
Killer can interact with pclaim anyways, but leaving scents. The worse thing is that big claims become unsuitable for new settlers, but it also have a good side: they can be considered as a kind of monuments which provide a historical perspective to the players.

wow so get killed and when you try to reincarnate your land is owned by the guy who just killed you?

that can be way too OP, would mean some guy would go around killing people taking their land declaim it for lp then go after someone else...do we really want to reward griefers?

Yeah, killer being able to get the lp on declaim isn't a very good idea but I just threw it out there.

If you are dead, or have not logged in for a very long time, your stake claim should become bashable. If your claim is bashed, you do not inherit the LP.

If you inherit, you inherit the claim, as it is now, unless your claim has been bashed, in which case you don't.

oh yeah, this sounds like a great idea. After this we could implement a system where if you die you can't play haven ever again, and then upon death your automatically perma IP banned from the forum too.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

If it got rid of posters like you, then I'm all for it.

also you realise that what I suggested would likely help more people than it would hinder?
