In-game timer object. (Traffic light)

Postby mvgulik » Thu May 23, 2013 12:12 pm

Just something that keeps popping up in my mind as potential useful additional game object. (Village/Group Action organisation)

Some type of in-game timer. (as sharing Ender timer config files is a bitch.)

Size:
- Small. (similar to a dream-catcher)

Object options:
- Just set it, when the time is locked with the object. (Cheap to build. Time needs to be set/branded before it can be used.)
- A manual reset(to off) option perhaps.
- Option to set a new count-down time. (More expensive to build)
- (forgot) Some short label option would probably be useful here to. (the write one's type I imagine)

Object States:
- Minimal 2. (On/Off)
- But a bit more might be nice to.

Resource Costs:
- Sand of course. (Definitely for its build. But It could also use sand for it to operate. Giving sand at least some more use.)
- Glass perhaps to. (Which might also be needed to fix it when broken.)
- (Other general build materials)

Needed Skill:
- Time keeping. ;)

Think that's basically it.

and this would be useful for?

enders has a timer feature, and his would just be another great, but unused (and possibly broken) feature. Like coinpresses, ever seen one of those?

Useful for sharing timers, really.
And it's a good idea at big villages where people with different timezones live in, and they make steel or something that requires a timer.
Sharing timers is really good for organization so +1
I like it.

Whatever you can think of that seems useful to you.
- Don't have any ideas yet. Play the game wile keeping this idea in the back of your head and see if at some point it might be of some use to you.

Why don't we wait with down playing it just based on lack of local data/imagination.
- If you think there is are some flaws in the idea. Its best to be specific about the details involved.

TIA

Lol, traffic light to keep time :3 That's one awesome traffic light :D

But I think this will be a feature no one (or practically no one) will use because of Ender's Client. Just like mapping, no one maps D:
Hope you have a great day

I don't think comparing it with the map feature is completely water tight.
I think it has its uses. Mainly for groups of course.
As feature I think its something that is not a bad thing to have in the game itself. (instead of doing it with a modded client, or with a external timer app.)

(Traffic light): ... Is the graphic mod I will do if it has tree stages. ;)

The group argument got my attention. It's accually kinda useful if you're for example making bars with two people at the same place.
Hope you have a great day

SUNDIAL! make it stone working to make and made from a boulder/cellar stone and yes I like the idea. I use the timers in ender's but I'm not always on the same computer(and those are stored on the computer that sets them) so it would be nice to be able to check my timers even if I'm at work/girlfriends house.
