Some miscellaneous suggestions.

Title says it all.

(Items):

Oil. 1x1 inventory square. Gained through processing carrots, flax seeds (AKA linseed.), etc, etc. Fuels lanterns and such.

Mortar. 1x1 inventory square. Made from cement, water and sand. Used for constructions.

Hooded Lantern. 2x2 or 2x1 inventory squares. Provides a large amount of light in the form of a cone spewing out in the direction the holder is facing. Must be fueled with oil. Cost: 1 cast iron, 1 plant fiber, 1 glass sheet.

Nails. 1x1 inventory square. Cost: 1 cast iron, produces 50 nails. (Stacks. I assume coins do.)

Stone block. 1x1 inventory square.

Ceramic coins.

Other resources mentioned above. (Sand, cement, glass.)

(Buildings):

Buildings affiliated with sand, cement and glass, if any would be needed. (Mortar mixer, perhaps?)

Lamp Post. 1x1 map square. A tall cast iron stand on which a lantern is typically mounted atop, providing a large amount of light in all directions. Cost: 3 cast iron.

Stone wall. 1x1 map square. Cost: 10 stone blocks, 5 mortar.

Brick wall. 1x1 map square. Cost: 7 bricks, 5 mortar.

Wood wall. 1x1 map square. Cost: 2 boards, 5 nails.

Branch wall. 1x1 map square. Cost: 10 branches.

Stone roof. 1x1 map square. Cost: 5 stone blocks, 3 mortar.

Brick roof. 1x1 map square. Cost: 5 bricks, 3 mortar.

Wood roof. 1x1 map square. Cost: 1 board, 5 nails.

Straw roof. 1x1 map square. Cost: 4 straw.

Wood door. 2x1 map squares. Cost: 2 boards, 10 nails, 1 cast iron.

Wood fence. 1x1 map square. Cost: 5 branches.

Stone fence. 1x1 map square. Cost: 3 stone blocks, 2 mortar.

Wood fence-door. 1x1 map square. Cannot be locked. Cost: 10 branches.

Gate/Portcullis. 5x2 map squares. Cost: 50 stones, 15 mortar, 8 cast iron.

Wall/Roof strength and build time, highest to lowest: Stone, brick, wood, branch/straw.

(Creatures):

Horses. Useful for riding on, carrying stuff and pulling carts faster than humans, when domesticated.

(Other stuff):

Walls, doors and roofs, blocking sight and some light. Replacing buildings, like the log cabin. (Crazy idea.)

Siege engines. Catapults, battering rams, etc, etc. Used for destroying walls, roofs and gates, must be operated by multiple people.

Tiny LP gain for fueling objects. Smelters, tanning tubs, etc, etc. (Seemingly, there is no LP gain affiliated with tanning as things are.)

Current light sources providing more light. (Everyone just turns the brightness up on their monitor as is.)

Ability to put out fires.

Ability to lay bricks, as we do with stone.

Ability to lay wood boards or blocks, as we do with stone.

Shift-clicking dropping stuff if there are not any containers or your equipment screen open.

Glass blowing skill.

Done, for now.

Edit: Forgot something, again, again.

I like variety so i like this suggestion. I also like the idea of the strength of materials scaling with the difficulty of building them. So if you wanted to a have a quick shelter and some type of defense you can easily build it, while at a later time upgrading them when you have time/resources.

Most of this sounds good, though the custom building stuff (walls/roofs etc.) has been mentioned as one of those 'nice, but horribly difficult to implement well' things. I actually agree that some kind of siege that requires multiple people would be a good idea (a one-man battering ram would be quite ridiculous) but what could an individual use with the same (but obviously lesser) effect?

Grappling hooks for climbing the walls. So a solo player could get past walls, but it'd take a long time and would look extremely suspicious. That, and make it so you have to climb when going back, too (ie disable telehearthport inside city walls).

While I kinda like that, I'm thinking more about situations where a solo player really needs/wants to destroy something that's getting in their way and they'd rather not have to wait for it to decay, or at least want to speed up the process a bit.

Oil should probably have to go in buckets or urns.
Oh! And it should be possible to make clay lamps with cloth and clay (it's basically a teapot with string down the spout), that's dimmer than a metal one.
Surprise.

That's true. I was thinking of the oil item as flasks of oil, but you would need metal for that wouldn't you? :)

Metal flasks would be neat, though. Or even glass vials. Ooo, and a waterskin! Though people don't need to drink, so that might be kinda useless.

If people did need to drink, it should probably be automatic; any open waterskin you have would gradually drain to keep your water stat up.

Yeah, that would be neat.

Grappling hooks, good idea. They wouldn't be able to go through a roof, naturally.

Another idea, some sort of stone quarry for collecting stone blocks. As it doesn't make sense to make them out of small stones, and there aren't that many boulders around.
