Water/fishing suggestion

Postby Clueless » Tue Jun 09, 2009 6:12 pm

First off i think water should have some type of depth system to it. At least make it so when you go in it you are swimming and can't do any type of action. Excuse me if that was already suggested before but I think it's a good idea.
Also a weather system would be nice. For now just rain because of all the things it could affect. Like potential flooding or slowing growth of crops because it's cloudy. Maybe refilling wells, all kinds of things.
Now for my main suggestion.
I would like the ability to dig out ponds, maybe a river. I mainly want this this so I can fish close to home. Although it should take a little more work then digging to be able to do this. Maybe in this fashion?
1.You start digging your hole.
2.You fill it with water either from buckets or wait for a rainy day(Related to the above suggestion)
3.Stock it with fish. You would have to fish at an existing source and put the fish in a bucket full of water.(They would just die by the time you got back home otherwise.)
4.Wait a few in game days for the fish to fill up the pond and you have yourself a fishing hole.

I think digging is a bad idea seeing as most (all?) animals can't swim.

You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them.
And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.

Water depth, digging, weather, boats and seasons (the last two were mentioned someplace else), all great ideas which I would love to see implemented.

That's why, if it was implemented, animals would have to be given the ability to swim. As players would also.

I'd say you'd need at least three water types; Shallow, Deep, and Open. Shallow water is as now, though it is less likely to have fish; Deep is anything from juuusssst too deep to stand in to 20 or more feet; deep enough so that you have to swim. Open water is different in so much that is represents water that's so far from land it's really it's own biome, and thus you might find different creatures here. Normally you can't swim here and expect to get home. Boats would be required.
Surprise.

Forgot about that.....

Well what if it was a buildable object. About the size of a cabin. This way you couldn't just run across it. It would have the same requirements as before to stock it, though. Better?

you could build a whole trench around your town.

I don't think all animals should be able to swim.
Bears should, but rabbits should not. Foxes should not either.

Why shouldn't foxes be able to swim?

I have to say, I think it might be better if you could build a moat that humans could not cross! ... We'd need a drawbridge, though... (begins to scheme 8-) )

Foxes can swim. Have you not read the ginger bread man? The fox swims the cookie across the river, then eats him.
