mining

mining is stupidly harder by fixing snake mining and strait forward mining hermits cant get any ore anymore because you need ore to have supporter and you need supporter for ore =hermits cant get ores.
idea how about l1 no cave in will happen but you wont get good ql ores and you wont get all the ores just some beginner ores so we can make supporters to start a real mine for metal /iron.
i know people abused the fact that there was easy way to mine but now its imposeble for hermits atleast make a way to mine ores for noobs and hermits :(

Try prospecting on the surface to know where the ore in the cave is located. I noticed there are less cave ins while mining ore, so you should be able to get enough ores to make a bar for some mine supports.

or you could try to make an alt for mining, until you have some bars.

i have thought about it but prospecting leads to a death more often then a cave because you will get a cave in when mined the wrong wall

You realize that everyone had to get their ore from caves originally? Nothing with mining has changed since the beginning of the world

yeah i know that but most ores arent at the wall of a cave you need to mine atleast 2 tiles but if you dont have a supporter cave ins will happen

First world ive played, im a hermit, been in about 5 diffirent cave systems and found tons of ore in one with about 70strength no prospecting mined about 200 tiles now without supports just mining outer walls and have caused exactly 2 cave ins.
Its tough and requires a bit of effort but very doable as a hermit
Only hard thing about it i would say as a hermit is defending your resource but that applies to everything

You can also use Numen to obtain your first ores, so you can start mining safely from your first attempt.

There should still be plenty of unclaimed caves, just keep looking. If your area truly is that crowded, then I'd suggest moving, ideally to a new grid which will have tons of open caves. New grids are free from the taint of those early worlders who settle on a cave, play until they get a palisade, ~30q crops, and a bit of copper/tin before being like "what now?" and quitting.

You just have to... deal with it.

I had the exact same problem, I got some ores from some nice people on IRC and it was solved.

Just prospect from above ground and build an entrance right on top of the node.

It's not that difficult.

I like this better because people can't just go around tunneling into my cave system as easily, they'd have to be bothered to haul down logs, built supports, etc. It also encourages trading.

If everything in this game was super easy it will get boring fast.
