As the subject says, could we have a noise on/off button? I generally listen to music, and even with winamp at 100% and the hardware knob low, the H&H sound effects are grating.
Your computer doesn't have a built-in program muter? You can probably download one somewhere.

XP, as far as I know, does not do that. My sound drivers do not have a program to go along with them to do something like that either.
Anyway, for if Loftar reads this: Since you hate UI work, you could just make it a command - ie. Sound 1, Sound 0; for on and off respectively. Just have it check before it plays a noise if you have Sound turned on or off
